Leicester City vs Southampton
England – Premier League
Date: Saturday, 16 January 2021
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: King Power Stadium.
It’s another busy weekend of action in the English Premier League with teams battling for position at both ends of the table.
Five games go ahead on Saturday with Leicester City hosting Southampton at the King Power Stadium in the main attraction from 20:00 GMT.
Leicester started the week sitting third in the Premier League and looking likely to challenge for a top-four finish this season and return to Champions League football.
There’s no recent, judging by their form so far in this campaign, why they can’t go on and challenge the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd for the league title.
The Foxes have won 10, drawn two and lost five games so far and are just a point off the pace set by Liverpool. The home team boast a proud unbeaten record in their last four at this level with that purple patch made up of two wins and a couple of draws.
They bagged all three points in their most recent league match, beating Newcastle United 2-1 at St James Park before hammering Stoke City 4-0 in the FA Cup a week ago. Confidence is high in the camp.
Leicester vs Southampton: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Brendan Rodgers’s men had recorded seven of the previous eleven overall wins.
- They had registered a massive 0-9 win just the last season.
- They have kept clean sheets in five of the former ten encounters.
- The hosts had kept clean sheets in five of the last seven meetings at this stadium.
Leicester vs Southampton Prediction
Southampton can move level on points with Leicester should they pick up victory at the King Power Stadium this weekend and Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have every reason to be confident, having won their last two Premier League games away at Leicester. A Covid-19 outbreak at Shrewsbury Town saw the Saints’ FA Cup third round tie against the League One side last weekend postponed and as such they have not played since their 1-0 victory against defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
Defensively Southampton have been outstanding recently, keeping three successive clean sheets heading into this match and their backline will need to be on form once again here, with Leicester having scored 11 goals in their last five games in all competitions. The Foxes with home advantage will be considered favourites, however Southampton have proven themselves as capable of picking up positive results against any side in the division and following an extended period of rest, will be confident of picking up at least a point here.
With that in mind, consider the visitors double chance here.
